We organise regular activities for our local and overseas students to enjoy.
Participating in these activities gives the IH team a chance to get to know you better, and for you to spend time practising the language amongst friends in a relaxed, enjoyable environment.

Dumpling-Making Class

Learn how to make the one of China's most famous food, 'jiaozi'. They can be both sweet or savoury, and are usually associated with Chinese New Year celebrations. After making them, enjoy a dumpling dinner and taste the results of your hard work.

Beijing Opera Face Mask-Making

Learn to make the masks used in Beijing opera, and discover the meanings behind the different colours. Be brave and guileless by manipulating red or tiptoe intrepidly behind your black mask.

Traditional Knot Instruction

Chinese traditional decorative knots are a form of Chinese folk art from the Tang & Song dynasties which use one thread to form the shapes of birds, flowers, dragons, fish & even shoes. These knots are famed for warding off bad spirits, and are a common good luck charm at Chinese weddings.

Chinese Pottery Lessons

A pottery workshop for those who wish to explore & produce the traditional pottery of Shandong, famous for its distinctive black ceramics. The workshop offers an introduction to both Chinese traditional and modern ceramic-making.

Chinese Qigong Lessons

Qigong is the gentle art of breathing and meditation, practised by Chinese to stimulate qi, the body¡¯s internal life force. Famed for its medicinal qualities, Qigong helps to increase strength, improve resistance to illness & achieve a relaxed state of equilibrium.
